Where Darkness Walks

Clarie’s world is about to change for the darker. Rand broke up with her at the prom, she uncovers a secret in the hidden back of an armoire, and she meets Patrick, who is determined to help her forget her broken heart.

As Clarie evades classmate Bulldog’s stalking, she and Patrick explore the dark halls of an abandoned cement plant. After following Clarie and Patrick deep inside the cement plant, Bulldog confronts Clarie as he fights with Patrick. When she is accidentally pushed against a set of dark doors into the shadow realm of Mortgatha, everything she fears is set into motion to keep her away from her beloved Earth world.

Even with Patrick’s help, the doorway home moves randomly, evil characters beset them at every turn, and the way home seems farther away than ever.

MY NEW BOOK IS COMING OUT SOON!

Here is another excerpt from it:

Clarie threw herself onto her stomach, head sticking over the side, and heaved until her stomach was completely empty.
Exhausted, she rolled carefully onto her back and finally looked up toward the stone structure. Patrick was looking over the side of the balustrade where it had given way under her hand. From here, it looked completely unstable and she was afraid that Patrick would fall.   However, a movement near him caught her attention.
Clarie tried to open her mouth to warn him, but the sound that came out was strangled with fear. She could only watch as a dark figure, wielding a long, wicked-looking knife, silently slid up behind Patrick. The blade flashed, too bright for the dull day, around Patrick’s neck.

A baluster is a molded shaft, square or of lathe-turned form, one of various forms of spindle in woodwork, made of stone or wood and sometimes of metal. So basically it is the pretty legs that hold up a banister on a stairway, or in this case, a balcony. That’s where the word balustrade comes from. In my book, my characters are checking out an old rock structure with a stone balustrade that is crumbling around them. Needless to say, Clarie has fallen!

MORTGATHA TRILOGY

For the past year, I've been working really hard on a book series. It is a YA trilogy (fantasy) PG-13 or so. I'm so excited I could spit... or at least squeal like a little girl!

I decided to give a teaser here and also on my FB page:

https://www.facebook.com/Donna.H...

"A delicate thump from the inside moved the back slightly. Clarie yelped, throwing herself backward as she dropped her tool. For several moments, she stared at the armoire; she heard the noise again. The sound had not been her imagination and it made her wonder if a small animal had gotten trapped inside it. Then she shook her head, puzzled.
Gingerly, she lifted the side and peeked under the armoire, but immediately she could tell the cavities, shelves, and drawers, were empty. She could see back to the hole where daylight shined through. Still, as she set it back face down, she felt other slight thumps vibrate the wood, increasing in urgency. She smiled curiously. It wasn’t common, but also not unheard of––perhaps this armoire had a secret compartment; perhaps it had a false back."
